Happy May!

Happy Thursday, Saskatchewanians!

May’s bringing sunshine, and the sweet thwack of golf balls flying across Regina.

Murray and Tor Hill Golf Courses are now open for the season, and Lakeview Par 3 will be joining the fun tomorrow, May 2. Their driving ranges have been buzzing since April 18, giving golfers a head start on their swings.

If you haven’t booked your tee time yet, don’t panic—advanced online bookings are open. See you on the green!

💲 Trending Headlines that Impact your Wallet

🌾China: Friend or Foe? Depends Who You Ask

Liberal MP Majid Jowhari calls China a "like-minded" ally and wants deeper trade ties—just as former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney warns it's our biggest threat.

With tensions rising between Canada and the U.S., Jowhari argues pivoting to China could help stabilize trade. But Carney’s take? It’s a gamble with national security on the line.

No immediate policy shifts yet—but where Canada leans next could shape job markets, prices, and economic partnerships.

Big trade pivot? Maybe. High stakes? Definitely.

🌾 Three Years, No Raise—Can Saskatchewan Afford to Wait?

After three years without a raise, over 14,000 CUPE 5430 health-care workers are pushing back—with hundreds rallying at the legislature. Their message? Saskatchewan’s front-line workers are stretched thin, underpaid, and fed up.

Low wages are forcing many to work overtime or take second jobs, while others are leaving the province altogether. The union rejected a 3% interim offer and is back at the bargaining table April 29, with job action on the line if talks stall again.

Bottom line: If health-care workers strike or continue to exit for better pay elsewhere, it could mean longer wait times, higher recruitment costs, and more tax dollars spent to fill the gaps. This wage fight isn’t just about pay—it’s about keeping Saskatchewan’s health system running.
