U.S. and China Reach Tariff Truce: A Win for Markets, But What’s Next?
The U.S. and China have reached a temporary 90-day truce, rolling back the majority of their high tariffs. Under the new deal, the U.S. will reduce its 145% tariff on Chinese goods to 30%, while China will lower its tariff on U.S. goods to 10%. The agreement follows intense talks in Geneva, and the market responded positively, with stock prices and oil surging.
However, this deal is not the end of trade tensions. While both sides have agreed to a brief pause, analysts remain cautious. The full impact of the tariff rollback will depend on whether the two nations can find a long-term resolution in the coming months.
The question remains: will this truce lead to a stable resolution, or will tariffs rise again, leaving global markets vulnerable and wallets at risk?
Regina to Provide $6.8M Incentive for Costco: Boom or Bump?
Regina city council has voted to provide Costco with a $6.78-million incentive to build a second location in the Westerra area. The funds will come from the Regina Land Development Reserve, with the city estimating repayment through property taxes within seven years.
While the decision sparked some debate, Mayor Bachynski believes it will spur growth in the area, creating 300 jobs and attracting further development. However, the change in Costco's location—initially planned for within Regina but moved to the Global Transportation Hub—was prompted by cheaper land available through provincial subsidies.
Boom or bump? The outcome hinges on whether this investment can deliver the expected returns for the city.
